El Tanque Opens Bidding Process for New Municipal Swimming Pool Management
The town of El Tanque has launched a 120,000-euro tender to secure a private operator for its newly constructed municipal swimming pool, aiming to open the facility to the public this summer.
El Tanque has officially opened the bidding process to find a company to manage its new municipal swimming pool. This marks a major step forward for the Tenerife town, which finished construction on the facility in August 2024 at a cost of nearly half a million euros. Because the town is inland, residents previously had to travel to other parts of the Isla Baja region to swim.
The City Council is offering a 120,000-euro contract for the pool's operation and maintenance, with bids due by June 10. The local government explained that it must outsource the service because it currently lacks the staff and technical resources to run the facility itself. The winning contractor will be responsible for cleaning, maintenance, and lifeguard services. Bids will be judged on experience, cost, and potential improvements, such as extended operating hours or opening during holidays like Easter.
Mayor Esther Morales noted that the pool, located next to El Lance park, is designed for community health and social well-being rather than competitive sports. The complex includes a main pool, a therapeutic pool with water jets and beds, and a fenced-in area for children. This is especially important for the town’s aging population, as it provides a local space for exercise and physical therapy that was previously difficult to access.
While the town hopes to open the pool for the summer season—ideally between July and mid-September—the timeline remains uncertain. The local government cautioned that the opening date depends on how many companies submit bids and how quickly the administrative process is completed. With a capacity of 100 people, the project aims to become a key part of community life, bringing public swimming to El Tanque for the first time.
