El Sauzal to Host Multidisciplinary Solar Eclipse Event on August 12

The Tenerife municipality of El Sauzal is hosting a unique multidisciplinary event on August 12, timed to coincide with a partial solar eclipse visible from the Canary Islands. Held at the Casa del Vino, the event—titled "Eclipse (Special Space vol. 2)"—blends science, performing arts, and fine dining into one cultural experience.

The eclipse will reach its peak in the region at approximately 7:53 p.m., with the Moon covering about 69% of the Sun. Because looking directly at the Sun is dangerous, organizers are providing certified safety glasses, which can be purchased online and collected at the venue starting at 6:30 p.m.

The evening’s program explores the theme of light and shadow through various artistic performances. Chef Aridani Alonso, recognized by the Michelin Guide and a Repsol Sun, has curated a "solar and lunar" menu. His dishes feature high-quality local ingredients, including Queso de Flor de Guía, Canarian Gofio, local honey, and Reineta apples. Beekeeper Juan José Hernández Hernández will also be on hand to showcase the importance of the local beekeeping industry.

The event also features a film showcase curated with the Festivalito de La Palma and the Seoul International Extreme-Short Image & Film Festival. The selection ranges from historical works by Georges Méliès to modern films captured during total eclipses in the U.S., featuring contributions from Iran, France, the U.K., New Zealand, and the United States.

Musical performances will include an original piece by the duo Mambec (Diego Barber and Akior García) and sets by DJ Claudia Rutten. Guests can also enjoy the "Eclipses-Infinito" art installation and wine tastings provided by the Cumbres de Abona Cooperative Society.
