The El Sauzal Theater will host "Famtàstic" on November 2nd, a multidisciplinary event that reimagines traditional Canarian "Noche de Finados" through international film, gourmet cuisine, and contemporary music.

Modernizing island traditions is becoming a vital way to preserve cultural heritage. On November 2nd, the El Sauzal Theater will host a new edition of "Famtàstic," an event designed to reimagine the traditional Canarian "Noche de Finados" (Night of the Dead). Titled "¡Toma castaña!", the event blends art, film, and food to honor these local customs.

Starting at 7:00 p.m., the evening offers more than just a show. Guests will be welcomed with wines from the Valle de La Orotava and Abona regions, setting the stage for immersive installations like "The Wake" and the "All Saints' Altar." The film program, "Stories from the beyond... and from the here," features international short films curated in partnership with organizations from Seoul, Mexico, and beyond, offering a global perspective on how different cultures process grief and memory.

The culinary experience is equally impressive, featuring five tasting dishes created by young chefs from the Michelin-starred restaurant Taste 1973. Under the guidance of chef Diego Schattenhofer, the team—Guillermo García Santos, Julia Herzel, Nahuel Campos Núñez, and Iván Alfaro Gámez—will highlight seasonal ingredients and traditional flavors.

The night concludes at 10:30 p.m. with a performance by "Voces de las Ánimas." Led by Pedro Ageno, Ayla Rodríguez, and Zaida Almeida, the group will combine traditional Canarian percussion and oral history with modern electronic music.

As a special addition, the first 40 ticket buyers will be invited to a guided tour of the El Sauzal Municipal Cemetery on the evening of November 1st. Tickets are available through the Tickety platform or the theater’s website. This event serves as a unique opportunity to experience local funeral rites in a contemporary, meaningful way.
