El Sauzal’s Verano de Cuento Festival Concludes with Tribute to Lili Amiel

The Verano de Cuento Oral Storytelling Festival is reaching its grand finale in El Sauzal after six successful weeks. This final weekend will honor the late Lili Amiel, a legendary figure in the world of oral storytelling.

The closing celebrations are split into two days:

Friday: The "Great Friday" Starting at 9:00 p.m., this session is dedicated to adult audiences. It serves as an open forum featuring over a dozen storytellers, including Antonio de la Cruz, Cele Díaz, Matilde and Lochy, Begoña Vicente Mendataurigoitia, Lola Padilla, Javier Rodríguez, Cayaya González, Jesús Bayón, Juan Reyes, Loli Figueroa, María del Carmen Benedicto, Ana Tovar, and Julen Expósito. Organizers have confirmed that anyone interested in performing can still sign up at the venue.

Saturday: Family Fun and Finales Saturday’s schedule is packed with activities for all ages:

• 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: A Mini Book Fair featuring local shops Más que papel, Cuentos en la cabeza, and Librería Techy.
• 10:00 a.m.: An illustration workshop led by Mariana Rodríguez.
• 12:00 p.m.: An open storytelling session.
• 12:00 p.m.: The company Chiquitines Go! presents The Story That Was Never Told, a musical performance for children aged six and up.
• 9:00 p.m.: The festival officially closes with a rap battle featuring Koran, C-pequeño, and DuareTMH.

Supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the El Sauzal City Council, and the DISA Foundation, the festival remains a vital event for keeping traditional storytelling alive in an increasingly digital world.
