El Sauzal Hosts 27th Verano de Cuento Festival
The 27th edition of the Verano de Cuento festival returns to El Sauzal this weekend, featuring a diverse program of storytelling, sensory activities, and freestyle rap performances.
The 27th edition of the Verano de Cuento festival has once again cemented El Sauzal as a key cultural hub in the Canary Islands. Organizers say this weekend’s event remains dedicated to showcasing a wide variety of storytelling styles, blending traditional oral tales with modern formats like freestyle rap. The festival is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Island Council, the local town hall, and the DISA Foundation, all working to boost the cultural scene in northern Tenerife.
The program begins this Friday at 9:00 p.m. at the El Sauzal Theater with an adult-focused evening. Celeste Abba will perform a piece that challenges traditional gender roles through stories of women who defy social expectations. She will be followed by Andrés González Novoa, who will share stories of the sea and human resilience, focusing on themes of survival and rescue.
On Saturday, the festival shifts its focus to younger audiences with an 11:00 a.m. session at the same theater. Omaira Morales will lead an activity for children aged three and up, centered on sensory memory and the magic of everyday life. The festival concludes Saturday night at the Plaza del Príncipe with a free lyrical improvisation show starting at 9:00 p.m. Featuring artists 2ual, El Borges, and Raxxer, the event aims to bring together people of all ages.
