El Rosario Council Approves Machado Sports Center Roof
The El Rosario City Council has approved a 366,745 euro contract to construct a roof over the Machado sports center, ensuring continuous sports and recreational activities for residents and schoolchildren regardless of weather.
The El Rosario City Council has approved the contract to build a roof over the Machado sports center. This project aims to ensure that schoolchildren and local residents can continue their sports and recreational activities, even when the weather is bad. It's part of a wider plan to improve public facilities and shows that local and island authorities are dedicated to promoting sports and improving community life.
The El Rosario council finalized the bidding process for the project, which will cost 366,745 euros. This cost will be shared by the City Council and the Sports Department of the Cabildo de Tenerife. Jelovicspain Sociedad Limitada will carry out the construction, which is expected to take seven months from when work begins.
El Rosario's mayor, Escolástico Gil, stressed how important this project is for the well-being of residents. He pointed out that the court is a key spot for CEIP Machado students during school hours and is also available for all citizens year-round. The new structure will feature a prefabricated laminated wood roof, supported by seven arch-shaped frames, creating a very flexible covered play area.
The new courts will be smaller than standard sizes, making them ideal for school and recreational use. They will combine an outdoor area with the new covered section. This design will allow for various sports to be played, including three mini-basketball courts (17.6 by 9.35 meters), one long mini-futsal and mini-handball court (33.05 by 15.26 meters), one standard volleyball court, and two mini-volleyball courts. This project is part of the Tenerife Sports Infrastructure Plan 2022-2026, which has contributed a subsidy of 196,929 euros through the island Cabildo.
It's worth noting that this sports area was significantly improved in July 2017. Back then, the surface was repaired by grinding down worn sections, adding a leveling layer, and installing the Sportplus system – a special synthetic resin coating for amateur sports. That earlier work also involved marking out the play areas and updating the equipment, creating a safe and practical space for local young people.
