El Rosario Begins Critical Cliff Stabilization Following Major Rockfall

El Rosario officials have begun applying shotcrete to stabilize the Tabaiba Baja coastline following a major rockfall, as part of a €2.8 million municipal project to repair storm-damaged infrastructure.

Work to stabilize the coastline in El Rosario, Tenerife, has reached a critical stage, according to local officials. Crews are currently using a technique called "shotcrete"—spraying concrete onto the cliff face—to secure the area following a major rockfall last January.

The project, located near Playa del Moro in Tabaiba Baja, follows urgent repairs needed after the winter incident. Before the concrete could be applied, workers had to clear vegetation and seal natural gaps in the cliffside with masonry.

This project is part of a €2.8 million municipal investment package approved to fix structural damage caused by Storm Therese. In addition to stabilizing the cliff, the funding covers repairs to the Radazul breakwater, the Tabaiba tidal pool, and the Costa Caricia road.

To allow heavy machinery to operate safely, temporary parking restrictions are in place. Local authorities have noted that these repairs highlight the ongoing challenge of protecting coastal infrastructure from severe weather, which often requires significant investment to keep high-traffic areas safe for the public.
