El público, a play adapted from Lorca's original by the Timaginas Teatro Academy's Youth Group, took home the top prize for Best Show at the 2nd Ángel Guimerá y Jorge Youth Theater Awards. These awards, organized by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council (through its Autonomous Organization of Culture and the Guimerá Theater), celebrate young talent in theatre.
The awards ceremony was held this Sunday at the Tenerife Auditorium. Baltasar Isla and José Pedro Hernández were in charge of the artistic and technical direction. Imprudentes Teatro hosted the event, with music provided by Nicotine Swing.
The jury also honored individual performances. Giosué Dominico won Best Actor for his role as Max Estrella in Luces de Bohemia (Esperpento Group, Valle-Inclán). Noelia Martín was named Best Actress for her performance in El público, and Martín Martín received Best Supporting Actor for the same production. Juventud a Escena was recognized for their show Reflejos, praised for "its strong dedication to creating youth drama and its use of various artistic styles." The Sol y Sombra Youth Group received a mention for Asamblea, noted for "the importance and relevance of its chosen theme and the positive message it conveys."
Beyond the jury's choices, the Autonomous Organization of Culture and the Guimerá Theater presented two institutional mentions. One went to Espacio La Granja, part of the Canary Islands Government and managed by the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development (ICDC), for its performing arts projects for young people. The other honored the IES La Laboral de La Laguna for its long-standing excellence in performing arts education.
