The Granadilla de Abona council has entered the final phase of a renovation project to modernize the El Médano promenade and improve accessibility for residents and tourists.

The renovation of the El Médano promenade in Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, is nearing completion. The local council recently announced that the first two stages of the project have been handed over, marking the start of the final phase. Built in 1992, the promenade had suffered significant wear from its exposure to the Atlantic, making it difficult for residents and visitors to use.

So far, 525,000 euros have been spent on the project, which is part of a broader tourism sustainability plan. An additional 172,000 euros has been allocated for the final phase, which has already been awarded to a contractor. Work is expected to begin in about a month and should take two months to finish.

The project involves replacing the walking surfaces, updating street furniture, and improving accessibility and safety. Public Works Councilor Marcos Antonio Santana noted that these upgrades have been a long-standing request from the local community.

The council acknowledged that the construction has caused some disruption to residents and local businesses. Looking ahead, the modernization plan also includes upgrading beach showers and public restrooms to improve services in one of southern Tenerife’s most popular tourist spots.
