Normal service has resumed at the coast of Granadilla de Abona this Friday, September 25, following the reopening of El Médano beach. The local council confirmed that the water is safe for swimming again after new laboratory tests showed that bacteria levels have returned to within the required safety limits.
This move ends a 48-hour restriction. The council had closed the beach on Wednesday, September 23, as a precaution after a routine test found 210 colony-forming units (CFU) per 100 milliliters—slightly above the safety limit of 200 CFU/100 ml. Such closures are standard practice whenever water quality results are uncertain, ensuring public health remains the top priority.
The beach was reopened after follow-up tests confirmed that water quality at all sampling points now meets health standards. This incident in the south of Tenerife comes during a period of increased monitoring across the island, with El Socorro beach in Los Realejos also facing similar restrictions this week while awaiting further test results.
