El Langui's "Campeones 2" Plays Tenerife Nov 7-8
El Langui's acclaimed play "Campeones 2, if Lorca were to raise his head," exploring art, disability, and ambition, is set for performances in Tenerife on November 7th and 8th.
El Langui, also known as Juan Manuel Montilla, is bringing his play "Campeones 2, if Lorca were to raise his head" to Tenerife this November. This show blends humor, emotion, and thought-provoking ideas about art, how we see disability, and how far ambition can take us. You can catch it twice: on Friday, November 7th, at the Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Arona, and on Saturday, November 8th, at the Liceo de Taoro in La Orotava.
Sponsored by Mynd Hotels, this play is for everyone and runs for about 100 minutes. El Langui leads a cast that includes Alberto Nieto, Emilio Gavira, Claudia Fesser, and Gloria Ramos. Pedro Lendínez and Daniel Díez Colinas wrote the play, which is produced by Funfun Comedy with Películas Pendelton. Tickets are available now at www.tiickets.es.
The play has been a big hit on its national tour. El Langui shared his satisfaction, saying, "Seeing adults and children laughing and feeling emotions together in the audience is the greatest reward for us."
The play itself takes a sharp but human look at the acting world. It tells the story of Claudia, an actress with a strong career who desperately wants a role that will change everything for her. Her chance comes when a famous director plans his new film and wants her to play the main character, who has a disability. But first, the director needs to be sure Claudia can truly take on such a challenging part.
To prepare properly, Claudia gets back in touch with her cousin, Gloria, a young woman with Down syndrome whom she hasn't seen in ten years. Hoping to "research" for her audition, Claudia joins the rehearsals of Gloria's amateur theatre group. There, Gloria performs with her friends Alberto and Emilio, under the direction of Juan, played by El Langui. Juan is an actor who almost made it big years ago and now doesn't trust the entertainment industry. He's suspicious of Claudia's motives and worries she might hurt Gloria.
The group is rehearsing their own version of "The House of Bernarda Alba." Claudia, pretending she doesn't have a disability, joins their creative process. Surrounded by the group's honesty, her complicated relationship with Gloria, and Juan's watchful eye, Claudia is forced to rethink what's truly important to her. The play sparks discussions about success, how disability is shown in art, and what some people will do to get ahead. It promises audiences a mix of comedy, social commentary, and genuine theatrical storytelling.
