'El enigma de Franca Farmín' to Premiere at Sitges Film Festival
The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival hosts the world premiere of El enigma de Franca Farmín, a genre-bending horror film directed by Octavio Revol Molina that marks a milestone in international co-production and innovative financing for Tenerife-based Blurr Stories.
The Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival will host the world premiere of El enigma de Franca Farmín this Sunday, October 11. This film marks a major milestone for Blurr Stories, a production company based in Tenerife since 2025. It is their first foray into genre filmmaking, created through an international partnership between Cabustra Arts (Argentina), Red Collision (Colombia), and Spain’s Sangre Films.
Directed by Octavio Revol Molina, the film reimagines 1960s Argentine folk myths—specifically stories of mysterious lake creatures and strange lights—within the modern world of digital media. The story follows a young YouTuber who travels to the Laguna del Olvido in search of fame, only to find herself trapped in a terrifying ordeal. Beyond the horror elements, the director uses the plot to explore themes of teenage identity and complex family relationships, all while incorporating the visual style of today’s online content.
The project is also notable for its innovative financing. It is the first Argentine feature film to be funded through capital markets and the first to utilize the cash rebate system in the province of Córdoba. This financial approach aligns with the global strategy of Blurr Stories, which has already established itself at major festivals like Cannes, Berlin, and Biarritz with previous films such as El mensaje and Escena final.
For Revol Molina, known for his work in folklore and suspense like Animal Moribus and El Ucumar, this film represents a new step in his storytelling. By working with ROJO Studio on visual effects, he successfully blends traditional oral storytelling with digital culture. With this premiere, the Tenerife-based production company continues its commitment to high-quality auteur cinema, further cementing the Canary Islands as a key hub for international film co-productions.
