Echeyde Suffers Double Defeat: Men and Women's Teams Fall
Echeyde's men's and women's water polo teams both suffered defeats, with the men losing 6-10 to Sant Andreu and the women falling 13-12 to UE Horta.
Santa Cruz Tenerife Echeyde had a rough start to their season, losing their first home game against Sant Andreu 6-10. This marks their third loss in a row.
The Tenerife team started strong with an early goal from Kike Ramírez, making it 1-0. But their lead didn't last. Sant Andreu quickly responded, capitalizing on defensive mistakes to score six unanswered goals. Óscar Montes, Aleix Herrero, Arnau Cunillera, and Sergi Franch all scored, leaving Echeyde trailing 1-7 at halftime.
Echeyde struggled to score, and with goalkeeper Héctor Martínez doing his best to hold the team together, they also lost Luis Araya, their leading scorer, who was ejected from the game. Despite goals from Iker González, Álex Andión, and Ramírez in the second half, they couldn't close the gap.
Sant Andreu, well-organized, maintained their lead to win 6-10. Echeyde couldn't deliver a victory for their home fans and will need to bounce back in their next game against Cataluña on Wednesday the 29th at 1:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the women's team, Las Guayotas, were also looking for their first win of the season in their third match. After a tough loss at home against Mataró, Enrique Cruz's team traveled to Catalonia to play UE Horta, a newly promoted team.
Unfortunately, they also suffered a disappointing defeat, losing 13-12. It was a doubly bad day for Echeyde, with both the men's and women's teams losing. The women were behind for most of the game, with their best moment being a brief 3-3 tie. Despite a late push with goals from Carla Martín and Maryn Dempsey, María Ramos scored the decisive goal for Horta with just 20 seconds left, making it 13-12. There wasn't enough time for a comeback, and Acidalio Lorenzo's team remains winless.
