Eamon Monaghan Brings Cinematic Miniature Art to Galería Leyendecker in Tenerife
American artist Eamon Monaghan will debut his latest exhibition of miniature, psychologically evocative installations this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Galería Leyendecker in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Tenerife’s art scene has a new focal point with the arrival of American artist Eamon Monaghan in the island's capital. Galería Leyendecker will host the opening of his latest exhibition this Friday at 7:00 p.m. at 86 Rambla de Santa Cruz, with the artist in attendance.
Born in Illinois in 1986, Monaghan is known for blending visual arts with cinematic storytelling. His work often takes the form of miniature stages, where carefully arranged objects are designed to provoke a psychological response. Having exhibited in major cities like New York and Los Angeles—with notable recent projects such as Under the Floorboards and Where’s My Chicken?—Monaghan favors a small, intimate scale that invites viewers to slow down and look closely.
In an art world often defined by rapid consumption, Monaghan’s focus on introspection feels particularly timely. By placing everyday objects into slightly unsettling settings, he challenges the viewer to question the reality of what they are seeing. This exhibition builds on a growing partnership between the artist and the gallery, which began in earnest last October when Monaghan was featured alongside artists like Richard Mosse and José Lerma at the Estampa 2025 fair in Madrid.
Following successful shows at prestigious venues like the Jack Hanley Gallery and François Ghebaly, Monaghan’s new exhibition offers a series of open-ended compositions. Rather than providing a clear narrative, he turns the gallery into a space where the viewer’s own interpretation completes the work. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to explore how fiction and reality overlap, using a sense of the uncanny to encourage deeper critical reflection.
