Eólica Renewable Energy Festival Returns to Tenerife After Decade-Long Hiatus
The Eólica International Renewable Energy Festival has returned to Tenerife’s Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies after a decade-long hiatus, blending scientific education with a diverse international music lineup to promote global energy sustainability.
The Eólica International Renewable Energy Festival has returned to the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER) in Granadilla de Abona, marking a major comeback for Tenerife’s cultural scene after a ten-year hiatus. Organizers have relaunched the event with a fresh format that blends scientific education with high-quality music, aiming to raise awareness about the global energy transition.
Taking place this Friday and Saturday, the festival focuses heavily on engaging younger generations. During a visit to the site, Tenerife Island Council President Rosa Dávila emphasized the importance of hands-on learning, noting that 100 students from CEIP La Estrella in Arona participated in technical workshops. Beyond the music, attendees can explore key ITER facilities, including the supercomputer, bioclimatic houses, and various laboratories, or attend presentations on volcanology and the SIROCO project.
The festival features four distinct stages, each with its own musical theme: "Plastic" for electronic music, "Crystal" for acoustic performances, "Carton" for urban sounds, and "Organic" for world music. The lineup includes international stars like Jayda G, TSHA, Sama’ Abdulhadi, WhoMadeWho, Danilo Plessow, Âme Live, and Octo Octa, as well as performances by Xoel López.
Sustainability is at the heart of the event’s operations. The organizers have introduced strict waste management, reusable materials, and a local market, while powering parts of the festival using ITER’s own renewable energy. To help attendees get there, free shuttle buses are available from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Los Cristianos, provided they are booked in advance.
Supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, Tourism of Tenerife, and various private partners, the festival also offers solar technology exhibits and documentary screenings about the island’s geology. This year’s edition aims to make science an immersive experience for everyone, with family-friendly activities scheduled specifically for Saturday. Tickets for single days or the full weekend are currently available through official channels.
