Duo Llamalagua Debuts Original EP Amid Canary Islands Indie Music Surge
Tenerife-based duo Llamalagua is set to perform an intimate acoustic set at the Noon Festival this Sunday to celebrate the release of their debut EP, Umbral.
The independent music scene in the Canary Islands is growing, with local festivals providing the perfect stage for emerging talent to shine. A prime example is the Tenerife-based duo Llamalagua, made up of Marta Rosa and María José Lugo, who are reaching a professional milestone with the release of their debut EP, Umbral.
This release marks a significant shift for the pair as they move from performing covers to showcasing their own original music. To celebrate, they have a busy summer of performances across the islands, starting tomorrow, Sunday, at 12:00 p.m. at the Castillo de La Laguna. As part of the Noon Festival, the duo will perform an acoustic set, stripping back their five new tracks to just guitar and vocals to create a more intimate connection with their audience.
Llamalagua—whose name represents the balance between two opposing elements—is part of a wider trend in the islands’ cultural scene: artists are increasingly focusing on emotional storytelling and authentic performances. This fits perfectly with the mission of the Noon Festival. Now in its eighth year and managed by Vector de Ideas, the festival aims to bring culture to everyone by hosting free concerts in historic venues across Lanzarote, Tenerife, El Hierro, Gran Canaria, and La Gomera through the end of October. By doing so, the festival helps local artists travel and perform across the archipelago.
For Marta and María José, these weekend morning concerts are a chance to prove how far they have come since they first started playing together. Their participation in the festival highlights how well-supported cultural events can help new artists grow, gain confidence, and reach a wider audience.
