On Saturday night, a Latin American driver crashed into a lamppost while driving drunk near Costa del Silencio, a town in Arona.
The man was driving on the TF-652 road, which links Las Galletas and Guargacho, when he veered off course and hit the lamppost at the entrance to Costa del Silencio. The pole, which had three lights, fell to the ground, leaving the intersection dark. His car reportedly suffered minor damage.
Local police controlled traffic, redirecting residents trying to get home.
A breathalyzer test showed the driver had a blood alcohol level of about 0.90 milligrams per liter.
He is now being investigated for a traffic violation, and his car has been impounded. Workers from the Arona lighting company disconnected and sealed the electrical cables. The damaged lamppost was cut into pieces and removed.
