Five individuals were arrested in the Canary Islands and Morocco for drug trafficking after over a ton of hashish was seized near La Gomera as part of "Operation Litoral 4."

As part of "Operation Litoral 4," the Civil Guard has arrested five people for drug trafficking and being part of a criminal group. Three of those arrested live on the islands of La Gomera and Tenerife, and the other two are from Morocco.

The arrests came after police seized over 1,000 kilograms of hashish near La Rajita beach on La Gomera.

The investigation started when bundles of hashish were found washed up on the beach. Civil Guard officers then kept a close watch on the area, and the Maritime Service searched the waters offshore. They eventually found 31 bundles of hashish, some floating in the sea.

After a four-month investigation to identify those trying to bring the drugs onto the island, police, with the help of the public, located and arrested the five main members of the criminal group.

During the arrests, police also seized seven mobile phones, two navigation devices, and various documents.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) and the Territorial Team of the Judicial Police (ETPJ) of San Sebastián de La Gomera, with support from other units, including the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) and the Cynological Service (dog unit).

The five arrested were brought before the Court of First Instance and Instruction of San Sebastián de La Gomera. The court ordered three of them to be jailed, while the others face certain precautionary measures.
