On the Canary Islands, a driver who sped up to 226 km/h will be tried for speeding and dangerous driving that endangered the lives of others.

On the Canary Islands, the traffic police received a complaint with a video showing a car's speedometer reading 226 km/h.

The police reviewed the video and began searching for the driver and the car.

Eventually, they found the offender and opened a case. He is suspected of two crimes: speeding by 80 km/h (which is a lot on the highway) and dangerous driving that could have endangered the lives of others.

The police remind everyone that speed is very important. The faster you drive, the greater the likelihood of an accident, and the more serious the consequences can be.

Under Spanish law, speeding by 80 km/h can result in imprisonment for a term of 3 to 6 months, a fine, or community service. They can also take away your license for a period of 1 to 4 years. The penalty for dangerous driving is even more severe – from 2 to 5 years in prison and a large fine.

The case has been transferred to the court in the city of Granadilla de Abona.
