Driver Hospitalized After Car Overturns in TF-1 Tunnel in Tenerife
A female driver was hospitalized with moderate injuries after her car overturned inside a tunnel on the TF-1 motorway in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Tuesday.
Road safety on the Canary Islands' major highways is back in the spotlight following a crash on the TF-1 motorway this Tuesday. According to the 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, a female driver needed medical help after her car overturned inside a tunnel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, heading south.
The accident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m., prompting an emergency response to assist the driver and manage traffic. After an initial assessment by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), the woman was taken to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital with moderate bruising.
Several agencies worked together to handle the scene. While the Civil Guard and Local Police directed traffic and began an investigation into the cause of the crash, road maintenance crews cleared the area and set up safety signals.
This incident highlights the challenges of driving through tunnels, where factors like changing light levels and narrow lanes demand extra caution. As one of the busiest roads in the archipelago, the TF-1 frequently faces safety and maintenance issues that remain a key topic in regional infrastructure planning.
