Driver Faces Criminal Charges After Drunk Driving Crash in La Laguna
A driver faces criminal charges in La Laguna, Tenerife, after crashing into a guardrail with a blood alcohol level significantly exceeding the legal limit.
A recent traffic incident in La Laguna, Tenerife, has once again highlighted the dangers of driving under the influence. Last Sunday, on the TF-111 road near Valle Tabares, a driver was caught in a serious incident that has now led to criminal charges for road safety offenses.
The driver’s blood alcohol level was recorded at 0.87 milligrams per liter of exhaled air—significantly higher than the 0.60 threshold that separates a standard traffic violation from a criminal offense under Spanish law.
According to the La Laguna Local Police, who arrived at the scene around 8:45 p.m., the driver of a white Dacia Sandero continued traveling even after a severe collision with a metal guardrail. The impact was so forceful that the car lost its front right wheel and suffered major bumper damage, leaving debris scattered across the road.
This reckless behavior can result in severe penalties, including fines, the loss of driving privileges, and potential prison time. After police intervened, the damaged vehicle was impounded as part of the ongoing investigation. Traffic authorities continue to emphasize that alcohol and driving are completely incompatible, as even small amounts of alcohol significantly impair a driver’s reaction time and control.
