The accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. last Saturday on the road between Tejina and Tacoronte. The driver was traveling too fast for the road conditions when he lost control of his Ford Fiesta near La Estación, crashing into a metal fence and causing significant damage to the front of his vehicle.
Instead of staying at the scene, the driver fled. Local police were quickly alerted and, thanks to help from witnesses, found the man nearby shortly after. He admitted to the crash and subsequently tested positive for cocaine.
This incident highlights a recurring issue for traffic authorities: the dangerous combination of speeding and drug use, which significantly increases the risk of serious accidents. Under Spanish law, driving under the influence of drugs is a criminal offense that can lead to fines, the loss of a driver’s license, and even prison time. Following the incident, the vehicle was towed to clear the road and restore traffic flow.
