A driver was arrested in Tacoronte, Tenerife, after leading police on a high-speed chase while testing more than four times over the legal alcohol limit.

A police pursuit in Tacoronte, Tenerife, ended in an arrest last Friday after a driver was caught behind the wheel with more than three times the legal alcohol limit. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving in urban areas.

The chase began at 7:00 p.m. when local police spotted a red Audi A3 speeding between Valle de Guerra and the center of Tacoronte. When officers signaled for the car to stop, the driver sped away, triggering a pursuit involving three police units. The chase wound through several areas, including El Pris, Guayonge, and Ernesto Castro Street, before officers finally intercepted the vehicle in the San Juan neighborhood.

A breathalyzer test revealed the driver had an alcohol level of 1.02 mg/l. This is well above the legal limit of 0.25 mg/l and exceeds the 0.60 mg/l threshold, which is classified as a criminal offense under the Penal Code. Additionally, the vehicle was found to be missing required documentation.

The driver and his two passengers—all men between 40 and 50 from Tacoronte and Tegueste—are known to police and have prior records for property crimes and other legal issues. The driver is now under investigation for reckless driving and crimes against road safety, highlighting the ongoing need for police patrols to keep the island's roads safe.
