Dreamland Gran Canaria Relegated After 31-Year Top-Flight Run
Dreamland Gran Canaria has been relegated to the Primera FEB after 31 years in Spain’s top basketball league following a decisive weekend of results.
Dreamland Gran Canaria has been relegated to the Primera FEB, ending the club's 31-year run in Spain’s top basketball league. Their fate was sealed this weekend following a 105-81 defeat to Valencia Basket and a last-second loss for Río Breogán against Casademont Zaragoza.
The team’s relegation was confirmed after a difficult final round of fixtures. While Néstor Che García’s squad struggled to keep pace with Valencia—who dominated from the opening quarter—Gran Canaria’s survival hopes rested on the outcome of the match in Lugo. However, a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Spissu secured a 94-95 win for Zaragoza, mathematically confirming Gran Canaria’s drop to the second division.
At the Roig Arena, Valencia’s victory was built on strong defense and efficient performances from Sako, Moore, and Badio. Despite efforts from Nico Brussino, Metu, and Wong to spark a comeback, Gran Canaria could not close the gap, trailing by more than 20 points heading into the final period. Valencia’s control throughout the game highlighted the competitive divide between the two sides.
This relegation marks a historic turning point for the club. After more than three decades in the top tier, the organization now faces a major restructuring. Following a season defined by inconsistency and a reliance on other teams' results, the club must now look toward rebuilding its project from the second division.
