Dozens of residents in Puerto de la Cruz's La Vera neighborhood have been without electricity for over 48 hours since storm Emilia, with provider Endesa citing staff shortages for the prolonged outage.

Dozens of residents on Archipiélago Canario avenue in the La Vera neighborhood are struggling without electricity. Since Saturday night, after storm Emilia hit Puerto de la Cruz, they've been in the dark. This means elderly people and children are without power, food is spoiling in fridges, appliances can't be used, and families are cut off without internet. Worst of all, nobody knows when the power will come back.

One affected resident explained, "We've had no power for 48 hours; it went out on Saturday at nine at night and still hasn't returned." They added that the City Council told them they could do little, as Endesa, the electricity provider, is responsible for fixing the issue.

Yesterday morning, some residents went directly to Endesa's offices to ask for answers and an estimated time for power restoration. They were told that the company had received the outage report but had "little staff" and therefore "cannot do more." A resident from the Isla de Tenerife building complained, "That's why they aren't sending anyone to repair the fault."

The City Council has shared the same message on social media: they are trying to help and have asked Endesa to restore power as quickly as possible. They also reminded everyone that Imesapi manages the energy supply as a concessionaire.

The City Council is urging affected residents to keep calling Endesa's customer service, as Endesa is solely responsible for providing electricity to private homes. Meanwhile, the local government continues to coordinate efforts to ensure power is restored quickly.

This newspaper has also tried to contact Endesa to find out what caused the outage and when power might return, but has not yet received a response.
