The documentary Mujeres de Lava, which explores the role of women in preserving traditional Canarian pottery, premieres this Thursday at Multicines Tenerife in La Laguna.

The preservation of the Canary Islands' cultural heritage is taking center stage on the big screen. This Thursday at 7:00 p.m., the Multicines Tenerife in La Laguna will host the premiere of Mujeres de Lava (Women of Lava), a documentary exploring the survival of traditional pottery in the archipelago.

Produced entirely by an all-female team and supported by the La Laguna City Council’s Department of Equality and Women, the film is more than just a look at a craft. It serves as the first episode of a new documentary series dedicated to highlighting the role women have played in protecting the islands' traditional trades. Admission is free until the theater reaches capacity.

Directed by Adriana Suances Sierra and Patricia González Adrián, the documentary goes beyond the technical aspects of pottery. It examines the deep connection between the artisans and their materials, while exploring the social history that allowed women to become the primary guardians of this knowledge for generations. At a time when industrialization threatens to erase traditional skills, this project serves as a vital piece of collective memory, reminding us that these crafts remain a cornerstone of Canarian identity.
