Discover Anaga Photography Contest Revises Results After Disqualification
The organizers of the 7th "Discover Anaga" Photography Contest have revised their results and disqualified a winning entry for violating originality rules, awarding the first prize to Aitor Sosa.
The integrity of any photography competition relies on how strictly its rules are enforced. The organizers of the 7th "Discover Anaga" Photography Contest recently demonstrated this by revising their results after discovering that one of the winning entries violated the competition’s originality requirements.
To ensure fairness, the contest mandates that all submitted work must be unpublished. After confirming that one of the winning photographs had already appeared on digital platforms, the organizers disqualified the entry. This decision led to a reshuffling of the top awards for the competition, which featured 90 entries from 49 photographers highlighting the biodiversity and heritage of the Tenerife massif.
Following the adjustment, the first prize of 300 euros has been awarded to Aitor Sosa for his photograph Atardecer en Benijo (Sunset in Benijo), which earned a score of 24.8 from the jury. The second prize of 150 euros now goes to César Afonso Afonso for his work, Luz de Anaga (Light of Anaga).
Festival management stated that this change was necessary to maintain transparency and ensure a level playing field for all participants. While the top two positions were restructured, the jury’s overall assessment of the exhibition remains unchanged.
The final selection of works, showcasing the diverse beauty of the Anaga region, includes: Vestigios and Planeta Anaga by Juanra Álvarez; Palmeral by Carlos Javier Fernández Palacios; Donde habita la magia de las hadas by Natalia Rehak Alsó; Las caras de las ánimas 2 by Juan José Padrino Arvelo; Sendero encantado and Silencio de piedra by Juan Oliva González; Origen by José Luis Fleitas Marrero; Mirror by Ofelia Arco; Verde que te quiero verde by Jon Arrizabalaga Ibarzabal; Anaga, silencio verde by María González Febles; Noray, algún día traerá tu cabo by Ana Hernández Grillo; and Magec.
