The demolition of the abandoned Tenerife Tour hotel in Candelaria begins next Tuesday, clearing the way for a new development featuring residential units, a supermarket, and expanded public spaces.

The demolition of the Tenerife Tour hotel in Las Caletillas marks the end of an era for Candelaria. As reported by El Día, the complex—a symbol of the 1970s tourism boom—will be torn down starting next Tuesday after years of decay and abandonment. The building has been closed since 2011, and its removal, approved by the local council, will finally resolve a long-standing eyesore on the Avenida Marítima.

The 8,355-square-meter site will be redeveloped through a plan that balances private investment with public improvements. Funded by developers, the project will replace the ruins with a new complex featuring residential units, a Mercadona supermarket, and recreational spaces. Under the Urban Environment Action Program (PAMU), the plan also sets aside 1,476 square meters for public use. This includes expanding the promenade, building a new viewpoint, and creating pedestrian areas where the old swimming pools once stood.

The City Council ordered the demolition last September due to the building’s dangerous structural state. To prepare for the work, officials have already cleared the site of occupants, managed pest control, and installed safety barriers to protect pedestrians and traffic.

Local authorities see this project as a vital step in revitalizing the Candelaria coastline. As the final administrative approvals are completed, the start of demolition next week signals the end of a lengthy process to transform a neglected site into a modern, integrated part of the town.
