Demolition of Historic Tenerife Tour Hotel Paves Way for Las Caletillas Redevelopment
The demolition of the historic Tenerife Tour hotel in Las Caletillas has paved the way for a mixed-use redevelopment project that will feature a new supermarket, residential housing, and expanded public coastal amenities.
Las Caletillas is undergoing a major transformation following the demolition of the former Tenerife Tour hotel. The project, which began in mid-October, recently finished with the removal of the old reception area, bringing an end to a site that had been in operation since 1966.
Led by Tenerife Tour S.L. and overseen by the SLP studio, the project reflects a growing trend in the Canary Islands: converting outdated tourist complexes into modern, mixed-use spaces. The demolition of the original seafront bungalows and the main hotel building has cleared an 8,359-square-meter plot, which is now being prepared for redevelopment.
The new plan aims to better integrate the site into the local community. While the land will host a new Mercadona supermarket and private housing, the developers are also contributing 1,476 square meters of land to the municipality. This space will be used to expand the coastal promenade, create a new plaza with a viewpoint and solarium, and provide better public access to the sea.
The closure of the hotel, once a landmark for local tourism, marks a shift in how the Canary Islands manage their coastline. Older, mid-20th-century facilities are increasingly being replaced by new developments that prioritize public recreational space and improved services for local residents.
