Demolition of the abandoned Tenerife Tour complex in Las Caletillas has begun, marking the start of a project to revitalize the coastline with a new promenade, public plaza, and mixed-use development.

The transformation of Las Caletillas has reached a major turning point with the demolition of the Tenerife Tour complex, which had sat empty for fifteen years. As reported by Diario de Avisos, crews have begun tearing down the seafront modules, a process expected to take about three months.

The Candelaria City Council ordered the demolition last September, citing the building's poor structural condition and the safety risks it posed to the public. The property owner, Tenerife Tour S.L., has hired the studio funcional SLP to oversee the removal of the structure, which had been a local landmark since it opened in 1964 with its unique, stepped design.

Beyond simply removing an abandoned building, the project aims to revitalize the coastline. The developers will hand over 1,476 square meters of land to the city, which will be used to expand the promenade, create a new plaza with a viewpoint, and improve public access to the sea. The remaining land will be redeveloped for a mix of residential and commercial use, including a new Mercadona supermarket.

For local residents, the demolition marks the end of a long period of uncertainty regarding the site. While the building was once a notable piece of local architecture, its years of decay had made its removal a highly anticipated event for the community.
