El Bloque beach in Tenerife has been temporarily closed due to water contamination with debris brought in by an underwater current; test results are pending.

El Bloque beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Valleseco district) has been temporarily closed for swimming. The reason is that a lot of debris has appeared in the water, brought in by an underwater current.

The city authorities have raised a red flag, which means that entering the water is dangerous to health. However, the solarium and the promenade remain open.

As explained by the mayor's office, swimming in El Bloque (also known as Acapulco) was prohibited after a lot of dirt, oily stains and even dead fish were noticed there on Friday.

Water samples were taken for analysis. The results should be ready on Tuesday. Then it will become clear what exactly is polluting the water and whether the beach can be reopened for swimming.

The mayor's office says that the debris was brought in by an underwater current. This sometimes happens in certain places due to the peculiarities of the sea. Therefore, it was decided to temporarily prohibit swimming.

At the same time, the neighboring Los Charcos beach is open, with a green flag flying there. And the red flag will remain on El Bloque until the test results are received and it is confirmed that the water is clean again.

Acapulco-El Bloque beach was opened to visitors in February 2023. The city council received this swimming area from the port administration, equipped it, made a more convenient descent to the water and places for recreation.
