Director David Serrano’s film adaptation of the stage play Lapönia premieres in commercial theaters on April 1, following a free preview screening today at Multicines Tenerife.

The Spanish film industry is increasingly turning to successful stage plays to reach wider audiences, with the latest example being the film adaptation of Lapönia. Directed by David Serrano, the movie will hold a free preview today, March 31, at 7:00 p.m. at the Multicines Tenerife in the Alcampo La Laguna Shopping Center. The event is hosted by A Contracorriente Films and the Charlas de Cine Cultural Association.

Following its debut at the Málaga Festival, the film will arrive in commercial theaters on April 1. The screenplay, written by original playwrights Cristina Clemente, Marc Angelet, and Jordi Casanovas, brings their internationally acclaimed stage story to the screen. Set in Rovaniemi, the plot examines modern family dynamics through a conflict sparked by the truth about Santa Claus, weighing the value of honesty against the magic of childhood. The film stars Natalia Verbeke, Julián López, Ángela Cervantes, and Vebjørn Enger.

For director David Serrano, known for his work in popular Spanish comedy, this project is a return to the fast-paced, witty style of the original play. Produced by The Mediapro Studio, the film was shot on location in Biscay.

The Tenerife preview serves as a lead-up to the national release and highlights the ongoing efforts of local cultural groups, including Charlas de Cine and the University of La Laguna’s Film Department, to promote cinema in the Canary Islands. Free tickets are available at the box office while supplies last, with support from the Isla Calavera Festival, the Diario de Avisos Foundation, and other local media partners.
