David Olivera Premieres 'Cincuenta' in Tenerife
Tenerife filmmaker David Olivera premiered his debut documentary Cincuenta, a personal film exploring a 50-day North American journey of self-reflection, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with an international debut set for March 2026 in Los Angeles.
Tenerife-based photographer and filmmaker David Olivera recently premiered his first full-length documentary, Cincuenta, at Espacio Price in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This deeply personal film blends travel, self-reflection, and memory.
The documentary follows Olivera on a 50-day journey across North America. He describes it as two parallel trips: a physical one, exploring vast, quiet landscapes, and an emotional one, where he sought to reconnect with important questions that arose as he turned 50.
Cincuenta was executive produced by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, known for films like Intacto (a two-time Goya winner) and Damsel. Tony González, who also served as production director, co-stars in the film, joining Olivera on his journey. This collaboration highlights a deep friendship between two people comfortable enough to be vulnerable with each other.
The Tenerife premiere drew over 250 attendees from the film and visual arts communities. Cincuenta is set for its international debut on March 12, 2026, at the Cervantes Institute in Los Angeles, USA.
Among those present at the premiere were José Carlos Acha, the Councilor for Culture and Museums of the Cabildo de Tenerife, along with many industry professionals who came to support Olivera.
Olivera explained his motivation for the film: “Turning 50 was a turning point for me. I felt a need to pause, reflect on my past, and understand my journey so far, to move forward with greater clarity.” He added that Cincuenta is “an honest look at life experiences, an exercise in memory and learning – understanding who I've been to discover who I can continue to be.”
