Darío Hérguer Exhibition Opens at Santa Cruz Contemporary Art Space
The Contemporary Art Space in Santa Cruz de Tenerife opens Darío Hérguer’s solo exhibition, Sobre la carne, en el vacío, which explores the intersection of physical materiality and philosophical inquiry through June 26.
The Contemporary Art Space (SAC) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife opens a new exhibition this Friday that brings the role of physical materials in painting to the forefront of the Canary Islands' cultural scene. Titled Sobre la carne, en el vacío (On the Flesh, in the Void), the solo show by artist Darío Hérguer will be open to the public until June 26.
The exhibition is shaped by Hérguer’s unique academic background, which goes beyond traditional artistic training. Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 2001, he balances his creative work with a strong theoretical foundation. He holds degrees in Philosophy and Political Science from the Complutense University of Madrid, as well as a master’s degree in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture from a joint program involving the Reina Sofía Museum and the Complutense and Autonomous Universities of Madrid. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Artistic, Literary, and Cultural Studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid, an intellectual depth that is clearly reflected in his work.
Hérguer’s approach moves away from traditional flat painting to treat the canvas as a physical phenomenon. By layering materials, he turns his work into a record of a process, where conceptual ideas and the viewer’s sensory experience meet. Drawing on European philosophical traditions, he presents his work as a living organism that blurs the lines between intellectual thought and physical reality.
The official opening takes place this evening at 6:30 p.m., with the artist present to discuss his creative process. This event offers the public a chance to explore a collection that goes beyond aesthetics to challenge how we think about representation in contemporary art. By hosting this exhibition, the SAC continues its commitment to showcasing emerging artists who combine technical skill with critical thinking.
