The Canary Islands’ creative scene debuts Phantom, a collaborative dance performance by Darío Bardam that explores the intersection of movement and sound, this Friday at Teatro Leal in La Laguna.

The Canary Islands’ creative scene is buzzing, and this Friday at 7:00 p.m., that energy takes center stage at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna with the premiere of Phantom. Led by Darío Bardam, this performance pushes the boundaries of traditional dance by exploring the deep connection between movement and sound.

Beyond the performance itself, Phantom highlights the growing strength of the local arts community. The project brings together talent based entirely in the archipelago and is backed by a collaborative network of institutional support, including the Ministry of Culture, INAEM, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the ICDC, and creative hubs like La Caldera and the Auditorio de Tenerife. With additional funding from Bulgaria, the production reflects the islands' ambition to overcome geographical isolation and share high-quality, technical work on a global stage.

Artistically, the piece breaks away from the conventional format where music simply follows the dance. Instead, Bardam creates a "horizontal dialogue" where sound and movement are treated as equals. To build this atmosphere, he has collaborated with artists from the local underground scene, including musicians Antcosmos and Ninf.A, and artist Aleksandar Georgiev.

The production team—featuring Viven Deniz, Maison Dubler, Alejandro Cedrés, and Claudia Luque on visuals and lighting, with production by Beatriz Bello and distribution by pesoproducciones—ensures a high level of technical precision. Ultimately, Phantom is an experiment in blending different art forms, challenging how we perceive presence on stage and cementing the Canary Islands' reputation as a vibrant hub for diverse, collaborative performance.
