DanzaTTack Returns to Tenerife for 16th Annual Dance and Film Festival
The 16th edition of the DanzaTTack festival returns to the Canary Islands through May 17th, featuring a diverse program of dance-film, urban dance, and inclusive performances alongside the presentation of an honorary award to choreographer Natalia Medina.
DanzaTTack returns for its 16th year, cementing its status as a key event for video creation and contemporary dance in the Canary Islands. Running until May 17th, the festival is based primarily in El Sauzal and is supported by the local City Council, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the regional government, and the DISA Foundation. This year, the festival will present its "Por Amor a la Danza" (For the Love of Dance) Honorary Award to Natalia Medina, celebrating her significant contributions to dance education and choreography in the region.
The festival goes beyond simple performances, focusing heavily on education and community outreach. Before the official start, organizers held workshops on dance-film and urban dance at local schools, including Santa Catalina de Siena and the Sabino Berthelot and San Nicolás high schools. This commitment to reaching a wider audience continues throughout the festival, with events taking place at the Centro La Esperanza TF2 in El Rosario and the Teatro Unión Tejina in La Laguna.
Public events begin this Friday at the El Sauzal Cultural Center with a presentation from La Gomera’s "Unidades Dad," the 16th Dance-Film Contest, and a showcase of short films. Over the weekend, the festival moves to the Plaza del Príncipe for a series of urban dance events, including technical workshops, a national championship, and breaking competitions.
The second half of the festival focuses on technology and social inclusion. Sunday features a workshop on visual programming tools for real-time creation. Starting May 14th, the Teatro El Sauzal will host the Danza capaz (Capable Dance) cycle, featuring performances by MH Dance Company, Enbedanza, Yingyu Lyu, and Vaciarte, all highlighting the festival’s dedication to diversity.
The festival concludes on May 17th with the 11th Regional School Dance Meeting and the presentation of the Honorary Award. Under the direction of Juan Reyes, the event continues to explore the relationship between the body, digital media, and public spaces.
