DanzaTTack Festival Concludes with Honorary Award for Natalia Medina

The 16th edition of the DanzaTTack International Dance and Dance-Film Festival concludes this Sunday in El Sauzal, marking the end of a successful event centered on choreography. The final day is highlighted by a special ceremony at 1:00 p.m., where Natalia Medina will receive the honorary "For the Love of Dance" award in recognition of her distinguished career.

Medina’s award reflects her significant contributions to cultural management and dance education. A Gran Canarian artist with a background in physical education and performing arts, she has spent her career bridging the gap between the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, and the rest of Europe. Her work goes beyond performance, focusing on how dance can serve as a tool for social connection.

Medina is perhaps best known for directing Masdanza, a competition she founded in 1996. Now approaching its 31st anniversary in 2026, the festival has become a major player on the international stage, earning the European Festivals Association’s EFFE label five years ago. It plays a vital role in helping emerging creators connect with professional networks across Asia and Europe.

Beyond large-scale events, Medina is recognized for her commitment to social causes. Projects like Transitando, Un Kilo de Danza, and Across Hip-Hop showcase her dedication to making the arts accessible to everyone, moving away from the elitism often associated with the industry.

The festival, which began on May 8, wraps up this afternoon with the 11th Regional School Dance Meeting at the El Sauzal Theater. By bringing together students from across the islands, the event underscores the festival’s dual focus: promoting international talent while fostering dance education at the local level.
