DanzaTTack Festival Concludes 16th Edition Celebrating Screendance Innovation
The 16th edition of the DanzaTTack Festival in Tenerife concluded by celebrating Iranian filmmaker Kamyar Niazy’s Front of Eyes and highlighting the global rise of experimental "screendance."
The 16th edition of the DanzaTTack Festival has wrapped up, once again proving its importance as a key meeting point for dance and film. Held in El Sauzal, Tenerife, the festival has become a go-to event for audiovisual innovation, with this year’s winners highlighting a growing trend of blending different artistic styles.
The top prize went to Front of Eyes by Iranian filmmaker Kamyar Niazy. The jury praised the film for its unique visual language, which seamlessly connects the human body with architectural space. A special mention was also given to Strange age by French filmmaker Fu le. These awards were chosen from a competitive field of 396 submissions, with 28 works making it into the final Official Selection.
Beyond the awards, the festival serves as a vital platform for local talent to reach a global audience. This year’s official program featured several notable Canarian creators, including Sara Martín with Inertia of Silence, Judit Mendoza with Tótem, and the collaboration A bene plácito by Daniel Abreu and Sergo Méndez. Their inclusion highlights the thriving creative scene in the Canary Islands and the festival’s role in showcasing experimental work.
DanzaTTack is a champion of "screendance"—a discipline where the camera is treated as a dancer rather than just a recording tool. With the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the El Sauzal City Council, and the DISA Foundation, the festival continues to promote new ways of performing. By attracting such a diverse international lineup, DanzaTTack has cemented its reputation as a leader in the Spanish cultural scene, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of art and innovation.
