Dansa València and LAV-C Renew Partnership to Expand Performing Arts Reach
The Dansa València festival and the Canarian platform LAV-C have renewed their strategic partnership to expand cross-regional residency programs and increase national exposure for emerging contemporary dance artists.
For regional arts scenes to thrive, their institutions must look beyond local borders. The Dansa València festival and the Canarian platform LAV-C have renewed their strategic partnership, aiming to bridge the historical gaps in Spain’s performing arts market.
Since 2021, this collaboration has provided a cross-residency program that covers fees, travel, and living costs for selected creators. Through an open application process, emerging artists from the Valencian Community have been able to develop their work at Espacio La Granja in Tenerife, while Canarian artists have done the same at Espai La Granja in Valencia. This exchange does more than provide a workspace; it offers professional support, networking, and curatorial guidance, helping artists reach national and international stages.
The program has already supported artists like Julia Irango, Claudia Valentina, Ylenia Quintero, and Jessica Castejón. Now, the model is expanding to include the staging of Canarian performances in Valencia. This growth will be highlighted at the 39th edition of Dansa València, where LAV-C co-directors Darío Damas and Beatriz Bello will speak at the "Nice to Meet You" professional forum. By presenting to over a hundred industry programmers, they aim to showcase the Canarian arts scene and emphasize how these inter-regional partnerships are vital for the sustainability of contemporary dance.
LAV-C notes that this partnership with the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) is crucial for helping artists gain international exposure. In a sector often defined by instability and isolation, these agreements are essential. They prove that connecting different regions is the most effective way to ensure that innovative artistic work reaches a wider audience.
