Cyclist in Critical Condition After Accident in Tenerife

A 65-year-old man is in critical condition at the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital following a cycling accident in San Miguel de Abona, Tenerife, on Tuesday. The incident, which occurred in the Lomo la Hoya area, serves as a reminder of the risks cyclists face on rural and mountainous terrain, where conditions require extra caution.

Emergency services were alerted early in the afternoon and arrived quickly. Medical staff from the San Isidro Primary Care center and the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) stabilized the man at the scene. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to the hospital by a medical helicopter.

The San Miguel de Abona Local Police secured the area and are currently investigating the incident. It is not yet clear how the accident happened, and it has not been confirmed if any other vehicles or people were involved. Authorities are examining factors such as road conditions and potential mechanical failure to determine what caused the cyclist to lose control.
