A 75-year-old cyclist has died following a collision with a tow truck on Tenerife’s TF-42 road, renewing concerns over safety for cyclists on the island's narrow rural routes.

Road safety on Tenerife’s secondary routes is under scrutiny again following a tragic accident in the north of the island this Monday. Emergency services confirmed that a 75-year-old man from San Juan de la Rambla died after his bicycle collided with a tow truck.

The crash occurred on the TF-42 road at kilometer 13.9, between La Caleta de Interián and Los Silos. This stretch of road, which connects the Isla Baja region to Icod de los Vinos, is narrow and winding, making it particularly challenging for large vehicles and cyclists to share the space safely.

The incident highlights the vulnerability of cyclists on rural roads, where heavy traffic and limited infrastructure increase the risk of accidents. The Civil Guard is currently investigating the circumstances of the collision, which caused significant traffic delays throughout the morning.

This tragedy has reignited the ongoing debate regarding road safety in Tenerife, particularly on routes where difficult terrain limits visibility and maneuvering. The loss of the cyclist serves as a somber reminder of the need to review and improve safety protocols for all road users across the Canary Islands.
