The 15th edition of the Cuadernos Escénicos Dance Festival has launched an inclusive educational program across the Canary Islands, featuring community-led performances and workshops designed to foster social connection through contemporary dance.

The 15th edition of the Cuadernos Escénicos Dance Festival has launched its educational program, which organizers describe as a way to foster social connection across the Canary Islands. By moving beyond traditional theaters, the festival brings contemporary dance directly into the daily lives of communities in Guía de Isora, Buenavista del Norte, and Icod de los Vinos.

At the heart of this year’s program is a focus on inclusive learning and community involvement. Choreographer Arnau Pérez has been working with local youth to create original dance pieces. These performances will be held this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Plaza Eulogia González Taima in Guía de Isora, and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Plaza General Eulate in Buenavista del Norte.

The festival is also highlighting accessibility through international partnerships. Alfredo del Rosario of the EnbeDanza company is leading a training session with the Occupational Center of Buenavista del Norte. Their performance will open the festival’s events in that town this Friday at 8:00 p.m. at Plaza General Eulate.

Additionally, the festival has invited Yaya Sanou, an artist from Burkina Faso who specializes in dance techniques for the hearing impaired. Sanou is currently working with the Apreme Association to help professional artists with diverse needs prepare for a showcase. This performance will take place on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in Icod de los Vinos.

These initiatives reflect a growing trend in Spanish performing arts, where accessibility is no longer an afterthought but a central part of the creative process, ensuring that dance serves as a powerful tool for social inclusion.
