Cristino de Vera Foundation and Institut Français Launch Global Film Series in La Laguna
The Cristino de Vera Foundation and the Institut Français are hosting a free three-part film series in La Laguna this June, featuring contemporary international cinema that explores themes of identity and global displacement.
The Cristino de Vera Foundation-CajaCanarias Cultural Space has teamed up with the Institut Français to bring a new film series to La Laguna. The program aims to offer local audiences a chance to see films outside of the mainstream commercial circuit, focusing on complex global issues through the lens of contemporary directors.
The screenings will take place at 18 San Agustín Street at 7:00 p.m. on three consecutive Tuesdays: June 4, 9, and 16. Admission is free until the venue reaches capacity, and all films will be shown in their original language with subtitles.
The series explores the theme of identity in unstable environments, covering topics like shifting borders and the impact of collective memory. The featured films are Si le vent tombe (2020), Un jeune chaman (2023), and Le quatrième mur (2024).
The series opens with Nora Martirosyan’s Si le vent tombe. This film made history as the first Armenian production in over 50 years to be selected for the Cannes Film Festival. It follows an international auditor in Nagorno-Karabakh, offering a look at political isolation. In the following weeks, the series will feature works by Lkhagvadulam Purev-Ochir and David Oelhoffen, taking viewers to Mongolia and Lebanon.
Beyond providing entertainment, this initiative highlights the role of cultural diplomacy. By showcasing films that examine the tension between tradition and modernity, the series encourages viewers to engage with global debates on displacement and coexistence.
