Crime has risen sharply in the Canary Islands: NC accuses authorities of inaction
The "Nueva Canarias" organization is sounding the alarm about the 26.6% increase in crime in the city in the second quarter of 2024, blaming the Security Councilor for this.
The "Nueva Canarias" (NC) organization is sounding the alarm: our city has become more dangerous! They refer to recent data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It turns out that as many as 400 crimes occurred from April to June of this year. For comparison, there were 316 during the same period last year. That's 26.6% more!
And the statistics are disappointing:
- Serious crimes, such as beatings and mass brawls, have increased – 7 cases instead of 3 (+133%).
- Robberies have become more brazen – 5 cases instead of 3 (+67%).
- Criminals have also become more active in terms of burglaries: 25 cases in houses, shops, etc., compared to 16 previously (+56.3%).
- Simple thefts have also increased: 73 instead of 63 (+16%).
- And car thefts have tripled: 6 instead of 2 (+200%)!
Regarding sexual crimes, the situation seems slightly better: the total number decreased from 9 to 6 (-33%). However, the number of sexual assaults has increased: 2 cases instead of 1 (+100%).
And what about cybercrime? Internet fraud has increased by 26%, and other online crimes have increased by a whopping 150%!
Overall, there were 214 crimes in the first half of 2025, compared to 155 last year. The difference is significant – +38.1%!
NC representative, José Daniel Díaz, says that "crime has doubled since the authorities took security into their own hands."
He blames the security advisor, Vanessa Luis Ravelo, for everything and believes that she is responsible for these statistics.
Díaz also criticized how Ravelo presents information: "She always brings a pre-prepared text to the meetings that only benefits her, and mocks everyone, even the Ministry of Internal Affairs."
He emphasizes that people feel unsafe on the streets every day, but the authorities (PSOE, PP, and CC) are turning a blind eye to this and trying to embellish reality.
