The exhibition "The Smoke of Progress," celebrating the historic steamship Correíllo La Palma and its vital role in connecting the Canary Islands in the early 1900s, has opened in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

The exhibition "The Smoke of Progress. The Correíllo La Palma, its Era and Recovery" opened this Wednesday at Casa Vandewalle in Santa Cruz de La Palma. It will be on display until February 20.

This exhibition has already been shown at the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and in La Gomera. Now in La Palma, it continues to share the story of the Correíllo. It takes visitors back to an island port in the early 1900s, showing the important part this steamship played in connecting the Canary Islands.

José Carlos Acha, who is the Councillor for Culture and Museums for the Cabildo de Tenerife, praised the exhibition's success. He stressed how important it is for the exhibition to travel across the islands. He called the Correíllo La Palma and its five sister ships "a historical milestone" that changed island life and the maritime scene of the Canary Islands.

Mr. Acha also thanked the Fundación Canaria Correíllo La Palma for their involvement. He said the project celebrates the islands' progress, made possible by better connections. Juan Pedro Morales, the foundation's president, highlighted the exhibition's role as "a bridge to history." He added that it helps us look back a century to understand how vital these steamships were for carrying mail between the islands.

Museos de Tenerife organized this exhibition with the help of the Fundación Canaria Correíllo La Palma. Its aim is to honor one of the most iconic steamships of the Canary Islands.
