Cool Moon Festival Returns to Canary Islands for 2026 Edition
The 2026 Cool Moon festival launches across five Canary Islands this June, featuring an international lineup of artists and cultural programming designed to foster global exchange and local accessibility.
The 2026 Cool Moon festival is set to become a key cultural event in the Canary Islands this June, spanning five islands: Tenerife, La Gomera, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and La Graciosa. Organizers announced that the festival aims to go beyond traditional concerts, serving instead as a platform for cultural exchange between Africa, Europe, and the Americas—the three continents that have shaped the islands' unique history.
Supported by the regional government and local councils, the festival focuses on decentralization. By hosting events in both urban and rural areas, the organizers hope to make culture accessible to everyone; most performances are free to attend until venues reach capacity. This approach is designed to boost local economies while creating spaces where people of all generations can connect.
The festival kicks off tonight in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the "Las Noches de Santa Blues" series. This year’s lineup is truly international, featuring artists from Japan, Brazil, Cameroon, Argentina, Cuba, Mauritania, and Iran. Highlights include the Afrofuturist sounds of Cameroonian artist Lornoar, a fusion of Japanese and Canarian traditions by Carla Vega and Satomi Morimoto, and the unique style of Afrocuband.
Local talent also takes center stage, with performances by Jairo Martín, Melania Piñero Trío, Fasur, Juan Mesa, and ST Dúo. Beyond the music, the festival includes a retrospective exhibition at Camerino 74 in La Laguna to mark its tenth anniversary, alongside discussions on sustainability and the role of women in the arts. By blending social reflection with a diverse range of performances, Cool Moon continues to bridge the gap between local island identity and the global music scene.
