The first stone of a new school worth €9 million was laid in Tenerife.
Construction has begun in San Miguel de Abona on the new IES Las Chafiras school, costing over 9 million euros and designed for 700 students, as part of a large-scale plan to modernize school infrastructure in the south of Tenerife.
In the town of Llano del Camello, located in San Miguel de Abona, construction has begun on a new school – the Las Chafiras Secondary Education Institute. A symbolic first stone was laid in the foundation.
The construction will cost over 9 million euros. The local authorities allocated the land for the school, which covers almost 12,000 square meters. The school will be able to accommodate 700 students in 22 classrooms. Of these, 16 classrooms are for secondary school students, and 6 are for high school students.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Canary Islands authorities, including Vice President Manuel Domínguez, Mayor of San Miguel Arturo González, and Minister of Education Poli Suárez.
This project is part of a larger plan to improve school infrastructure in the south. In total, 30 projects are planned, amounting to over 84 million euros.
Manuel Domínguez noted that the new school will help increase the number of places for learning and replace old, temporary classrooms with modern ones. According to him, this is important because many people now live in this area of the island, and it is necessary to provide all children with equal opportunities for education.
Minister of Education Poli Suárez emphasized that the construction of this school is an important event not only for San Miguel de Abona, but for the entire region. He added that this decision will help many families, as the number of children needing a place in school has increased significantly in recent years. The new school will relieve other educational institutions and offer students modern conditions for learning.
Mayor Arturo González said that the construction of the school is the fulfillment of one of the most important promises. He is confident that IES Las Chafiras will become an important milestone in the development of education in their city.
Overall, the plan to improve school infrastructure in the south of Tenerife includes the construction of 10 new schools and the expansion of 20 existing ones. This should help modernize infrastructure, balance educational opportunities, and replace old classrooms with modern and comfortable facilities.
