Coalición Canaria Urges Urgent Repairs to El Tanque Municipal Cemetery

Coalición Canaria has urged the local government in El Tanque to address the deteriorating state of the municipal cemetery, citing widespread neglect and calling for urgent maintenance alongside planned renovation projects.

The management of public spaces in El Tanque has become a point of political contention once again. Coalición Canaria has formally called on the local socialist government to urgently repair the municipal cemetery, citing its ongoing decline. The party says it is acting on complaints from residents who are unhappy with the current state of the site, which they argue requires better sanitation and upkeep.

After inspecting the graveyard, opposition representatives reported widespread wear and tear. Key issues include the main entrance, where the woodwork shows signs of long-term neglect. The report also points to cracks in planters and deteriorating walkways, which the party claims are clear signs of a lack of routine maintenance.

There is also concern regarding courtyards that were renovated in 2019. Despite the investment made just five years ago, the paving is already significantly damaged, raising questions about the quality of that previous work. With the City Council planning a new renovation project in a different section of the cemetery, Carlos Alegría, the local spokesperson for Coalición Canaria, has urged officials not to use this new project as an excuse to delay essential repairs elsewhere in the facility.

This dispute highlights a common tension in local government: the struggle to balance large-scale renovation projects with the need for consistent, daily maintenance. For the opposition, the condition of the cemetery is more than just an aesthetic problem; they argue that the site holds significant symbolic importance and that the council has a duty to keep it in a dignified state.
