Coalición Canaria Criticizes Vilaflor Government Over Recycling Center Delays
Coalición Canaria has criticized the Vilaflor de Chasna government for stalling the construction of a municipal recycling center by failing to transfer the necessary land.
Waste management has become a major political issue in Vilaflor de Chasna. Coalición Canaria recently criticized the local government, led by the PSOE, for stalling the construction of a new municipal recycling center. Although the project is part of a broader waste management strategy for Tenerife, it remains on hold because the local government has yet to transfer the necessary land.
There is broad agreement that the town needs a specialized facility to handle items that cannot be thrown away with regular household trash, such as oils, paints, electronics, and small amounts of construction debris. The opposition argues that the current delay is preventing residents from accessing an essential service, forcing them to travel to other towns and increasing the risk of illegal dumping in the local countryside.
Jesús Quijada, spokesperson for Coalición Canaria, has urged the local government to resolve the administrative deadlock immediately. He warned that further delays could cause the town to miss deadlines set by the Tenerife Island Council. The party views the recycling center as a vital asset for the town’s sustainability and insists that transferring the land is a necessary step to meet environmental goals and improve public services for the community.
