The unanimous support from the Tenerife branch is part of a broader strategy to solidify Clavijo’s leadership after a term defined by major crises. Island secretary-general Francisco Linares and organization secretary Rosa Dávila both highlighted Clavijo’s ability to handle difficult challenges, including the migration emergency, forest fire recovery, and healthcare pressures. For the party’s leadership in Tenerife, this backing confirms their commitment to a management style that prioritizes island interests above all else.

During the meeting, the party also addressed key issues currently affecting the archipelago. The Tenerife delegation discussed how recent decisions by the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council might impact essential public services. They also expressed concern over rising migration, specifically noting how the situation in Ceuta could influence migration flows toward the Canary Islands in the coming months.

This selection process comes as the regional government faces a complex social and budgetary landscape. While Clavijo still needs a three-fifths majority from the National Political Council in October, the strong support from Tenerife suggests this will be a formality rather than a hurdle.
